Today, Google announced on their official weblog that they are launching a new service of online photo albums, which is free, called Picasa Web Albums. Picasa, Google's free desktop photo management software, now comes embedded with the feature to publish the albums online on PicasaWeb. Once the photos are published, any one can see the photos organized in albums and can see the thumbnails. On PicasaWeb, people can easily organize their photos and can make comments and share with whomever they want. With the help of Picasa, one can not only publish the album online, but also can download the online albums into the Picasa.

Picasa Web Albums comes with 250 MB free space, which accommodates approximately 1,000 photos and there is an option to upgrade where with a fee of $25.00 per year, users can get 6 GB of storage where approximately 25,000 photos can be stored.

Now Picasa Web Albums is available only by invitation and one can get it here.
